MTB Guided Tour in Tremp

A guided MTB tour is one of the most effective ways to explore the extensive trail networks around Tremp and La Pobla de Segur. Local knowledge helps connect suitable trails into a balanced route while adapting the day to your ability, fitness and preferred riding style.

If you are considering a guided mountain-bike experience in Pallars Jussà, here is what you can expect.

Where Do Guided Tours Start?

Guided rides normally begin in Tremp or La Pobla de Segur. The most convenient meeting point depends on the group’s accommodation and the riding area selected for that day.

Transport to and from the riding locations is included, allowing the route to be chosen according to the group and current trail conditions rather than being restricted to one starting point.

Half-Day and Full-Day Schedules

Guided tours generally start at approximately 09:00.

A half-day normally finishes around 13:00. A full-day usually finishes at approximately 17:30 and includes time for a coffee or lunch stop.

The exact schedule can vary according to the route, group pace, weather and whether shuttle assistance is included.

How Is Your Riding Ability Assessed?

Trail selection begins before the tour.

During the initial conversations, we ask about your previous mountain-biking experience, including:

  • Where you normally ride

  • The terrain and landscapes you know

  • The trail grades you ride comfortably

  • Your experience with rocks, loose surfaces and steep sections

  • The technical features you enjoy or prefer to avoid

  • Your fitness and preferred riding style

On the first riding day, we normally begin with shorter, more accessible trails. This allows the guide to observe how the group handles the local terrain.

If everyone looks comfortable and approaches the trail with appropriate control and technique, the route can gradually progress towards more challenging terrain. This approach provides a more reliable assessment than relying only on trail colours or self-described ability levels.

Which Ability Levels Are Suitable?

The natural terrain around Tremp and La Pobla de Segur is best suited to intermediate and advanced mountain bikers.

Pallars Jussà has a diverse mixture of blue, red and black trails. Some routes provide fast, flowing singletrack, while others include rocks, loose surfaces, steeper gradients and technical enduro features.

Routes are selected according to the group, but riders should already be comfortable on natural mountain-bike trails. The area is not designed primarily as a beginner-focused bike park.

If you are unsure whether the terrain is suitable for you, describe your usual riding areas and the trails you enjoy when making an enquiry.

Group Sizes and Solo Riders

Guided groups can include up to eight riders.

Private tours are available for riders who want the day reserved for their own group. Solo riders and smaller groups can also ask to join an open group with participants of a similar ability level.

Matching compatible riders is important. A group with reasonably similar experience, pace and expectations can enjoy a smoother and more rewarding day on the trails.

What Does a Guided Day Include?

A guided tour includes:

  • Transport to and from the selected riding locations

  • Route planning and trail selection

  • Guiding throughout the ride

  • Routes adapted to the group’s ability and preferences

  • Shuttle assistance when requested

  • Drinks and snacks during supported shuttle days

The guide can adjust the route as the day develops, taking account of group energy, trail conditions, mechanical delays and changing weather.

Can You Use Your Own Bike?

Yes. Riders are welcome to bring their own mountain bikes.

For the local terrain, we recommend a well-maintained trail or enduro bike with at least 150 mm of suspension travel. Before travelling, check the brakes, tyres, suspension and drivetrain carefully.

A suitable bike in good mechanical condition will make the experience safer and more enjoyable.

Are E-MTB Rentals Available?

A full-suspension E-MTB can be added to a guided tour, subject to size and availability.

An E-MTB can help riders cover more distance and manage the region’s climbs while preserving energy for the descents. The route will still be selected according to the rider’s technical ability and experience.

Can Shuttle Assistance Be Included?

Yes. Guided tours can be combined with shuttle assistance.

The shuttle provides access to additional trailheads and reduces the amount of climbing required between descents. Half-day and full-day options are available depending on the group’s plans.

A guided shuttle day is particularly useful for visitors who want to experience more of the trail network without having to navigate unfamiliar connections.

What Equipment Should You Bring?

Every rider should bring:

  • A suitable mountain-bike helmet

  • Eye protection

  • Gloves

  • Knee pads

  • A hydration backpack or water bottle

  • Inner tubes compatible with their wheels

  • A compatible chain quick link

  • Basic tools

  • A mini pump

  • A spare rear derailleur hanger

Depending on your riding style and protection preferences, you may also want a full-face helmet, back protector and elbow pads.

Bike-specific spare parts are particularly important. A compatible derailleur hanger or chain component may be difficult to find during a ride, and carrying one can prevent a minor mechanical problem from ending the day early.

What Happens in Wet Weather?

Rain does not automatically mean the tour must be cancelled.

Tremp and La Pobla de Segur both have trails that perform well in wet conditions. However, certain clay-based areas should be avoided because they can become slippery and riding them may damage the trail surface.

The guide can change the planned route to select terrain that is more appropriate for the conditions.

In severe weather—including thunderstorms, lightning or strong winds—the guide may postpone or cancel the ride to protect the group’s safety.

Which Languages Are Available?

Most tours involving international visitors are conducted in English. Tours can also be guided in Spanish.

Some communication in Swedish may be possible by prior arrangement, although English or Spanish should be considered the primary guiding languages.

Local Guiding Experience

Chainguide MTB has provided professional guiding services since 2017.

This experience includes eight years of guiding in Mallorca, three years in the Pre-Pyrenees and collaborations in the Swiss Alps. Working across these different mountain environments has provided extensive experience in assessing riders, adapting routes and managing groups on varied natural terrain.

The focus is always on choosing an enjoyable and appropriate ride for the people in the group—not simply selecting the most difficult trails available.

How Far Ahead Should You Book?

Larger groups should book several weeks ahead whenever possible. Advance booking provides the best chance of securing the preferred date, transport capacity, guiding and rental options.

Solo riders can contact us a few days before their preferred date to ask about joining an existing open group. Availability depends on current bookings and whether the group’s ability and riding expectations are compatible.
